Women's Protet Meeting.
A mass meeting of women is to be held iii the Concert Chamber of the. Town • Hall on Wednesday evening at eight o'clock to protest against the Social Hygiene Bill, which has been brought down in the House • -of Parliament. The • Mayoress (Mrs. J. P. Luke) will occupy the chair,-arid the speakers will be Dr. ' Newman, Lady Stout, Mrs.. Houlder, Mrs. Donaldson,. Mrs. Glover (Salvation Army), and others. It is considered that the Bill is a direct menace to the safety of women, and girls and mothers, and soldiers' wives, and working girls (ifho are likely to be specially affected by the provisions of this Bill) are urged to attend. . .
Two members of the British Wnr Council have taken women as private secretaries. One is a service member, Lieu-tenant-General Sir Nevil Macready, who has had Miss C. L. Bennett as private secretary for the. last year. Sir Guy Granet/.the recently-appointed DirectorGeneral of Movements and Railways, has brought with him'to the council Mrs. W. B. Crump, as his secretary.
August 20 was the date which was arranged for the wedding of Lieutenant Edmund Graham Baskett, of tlio Nigeria Regiment, and Miss Dorothy Mary Cuthbert, only daughter of Mr. and jilrs. K. S. Cuthbert, of London. The ceremony took place in the afternoon at Southwark Cathedral (says an English correspondent). Lieutenant Baskett is the fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. Baskett, of Cambridge,. New Zealand.
