CARTERTON ITEMS

The marriage of Mr. Clarence R. Church with Miss Grace Ruby Chapliiiin, eldest dnughter of the late Mr. .T. Chapman, of Clarcvillo, took place in St. Mark's Church, Cartorton, on Wednesday, the Rev. ]{. Young, vicar of the parish, officiating. The bride wore a frock of embroidered voile, with a veil and orange blossoms, and carried n shower bouquet' of.freessias ami asparagus fern. She iy.us given away by her steprather, Mr. S. Siian. Miss Ida Chapman, sister of the bride, attended as bridesmaid, and wore while frosted cuslin with a pink flash, and black hat with pink roses. Mr. N. Nicliolls, of Carterton, was best man. The bridegrooms gift to the- bride was a gold pendant set with pearls, and to the bridesmaid was given a gold brooch set with poicls. After the ceremony a reception was held in the Showground Tea Kiosk, and later tho brklo and bridegroom left en route lor Waikanao (Manawatii Line). Tho Rev. E. J. Tipler, of St. Andrew's Church, Cartorton, who has been in camp for some months past, is leaving for tho front with tho 30th Reinforcements. Nurse Whitehorn, who has conducted a private hospital in Cartcrlon for seme years past, will during the present month transfer her interest to another nurse. Nurse Whilohorii has made many fiiend.s in Carterton during her residence, and a number of the ladies entertained her at an afternoon tea at Patrick's on Wednesday last. On Tuesday evening nest, in the Masonic Hall, Featherston, tho Wair.irapa Racing Club's staff will entertain Mr. E. A. Lnery, the late secretary, at a farewell gathering. A large number of Invitations hnvo been issued, and visitors will be presont from various parts of the Wairarapn. At the same gathering the citizens of Featherston will lake tho opportunity to express (heir esteem towards the guest of Ihe evening. Afr. and Mrs. Laery and family leave for t!;eir new home in Auckland on Wednesday.
