DETERMINED ATTEMPTS TO REACH LONDON BROKEN UP BY THE GUNS london, September 30. Press Bureau reports show that three groups of raiders made determined and simultaneous attacks on London, approaching from different directions. The anti-airoraft guns broke up .the groups, and only two, or possibly three, penetrated the defences. Bombs fell in the north-eastern and south-eastern districts. A fourth group attempted to approach Lonuon later, but was driven off. None of tiiese raiders penetrated tho outer defences, but they dropped bombs in Kent and . RAIDERS COMPLETELY ENVELOPED London, September 30. Every successive air raid shows the growing efficiency of'the'defences, of London. The raid on Saturday night confirmed this conclusion. The extraordinary violence of tho curtain of fire showed a great extension of. one of the loading features of our defensive measues. Wherever the raiders' attempted to run ilie gauntlet, shells which appeared to come from all quarters made a complete curtain of fire which seemed to envelop the intruders.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. ' i THE CASUALTY LIST. (Rec. October 1, 9 p.m.) London, September 30. The Press Bureau states: Eleven people were killed and eighty-two injured in last nighfs air raid. The material damage was not great.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.Reuter. THE GERMAN REPORT. (Rec. October .1, 9 p.m.) London, September 30. A German official report states: "Our aviators attacsed the docks and warehouses ia London, and also Ramsgate, Sheerness, and Margate, causing conflagrations. All returned."—Aus.-jN.Z. Cable Assn.-Reuter. YET ANOTHER RAID (Rec. October' 2, 0.25 a.m.) London,. September 30. A.British official report states: "Two groups of aeroplanes, and others flying singly, crossed the Kent and Efesex coast between ■ 6.40 and 8 in the evening, and approached London. Ten penetrated the', outer defences, but. only four or 1 five reached London. Bombs were reported from Kent, Essex, and London.
