SEATOUN CLUB OPENED

The Seatoun . Boiving Club formally opened its new season on Saturday afternoon. Thero was a good attendance, including tlioso ''interested in tho croquet and tennis sides of the club. Tho green appeared to bo in excellent condition, and the surroundings looked .'.ttraotive. Mr. W: Magill, president, addressing tho gathering, said that tho outlook for the club was good. They were fortunate in having Mr. M'Girr, 6en., : iis ground superintendent. Owing to the 'efforts of (his gentleman and his co-workers tho ground was now in ii much improved condition, and an expert had said that there was nothing in the wlvilo of Wellington to .surpass-it. ill". Magill expressed pleasure at seeing Mr. Crawford present, liver since its formation _ -Mr. Crawford had taken a keen interest in tho club, civen considerable help last year, when they were in difficulties. The tennis courts .were well patronised during tho afternoon.

KARORI CLUB'S OPENING. \ ' .Tho opening of the Karori Club's green was hel don Saturday. Thcro was a large number of visitors and moinbers and lady friends present, but tho rain kept a large number away. The president, in his opening -speech, said lie was sorry that tho visitors would not : liave tho chanco of trying the to «11 : appearances perfect green. He also referred to tho (splendid Honour Board presented by Messrs. T. H. Spiers and H. 8., Roberts, members of the club, to the names of the past-president's club singles and pairs being attached. The board is uiado of NewZealand timber (red pino), and it is of splendid workmanship. It was made by Mr. Spiers, and linished off by Mr. H. B. Roberts. - '

Although tho rain was coming down steadily at tho time, Mrs. H. E. Dryden threw the jack amid cheers. . Afternoon tea was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Dryden. assisted by Mrs. A. Henderson, Len. Tingey, W. Cooper, and Miss Dryden. The tables were, \decorated by Mrs. Dryden and Miss ' Dryden in tho club colours. During tho afternoon Miss ijiyden collected from those present .£3 ■K to bo luanuVd to Miss Stott for comforts for invalided returned soldiers located in tho Victoria Hospital.
