The Working Men's Club's mx'Gser.tfitivM were the guests of the Wellington South' Cheei Club at the Newtown Public Library; on Monday evening, when the twelfth! annual match was contested. A coqlial welcome was tendered to the visitorsj by the local president, Air. W. Armstrong, who mentioned tl.ut the two clubs lad been splendidly matched in the pasj, each side having won on five occasions, while one. match had ended in, a tie.; (Applause.) Play thou proceeded promptly, all preliminaries having been attended to by a working bee. A very gratifying feature of the contest was the stubborn nature 'of the play, thoso who failed to scoro having the satisfaction of | putting up a great fight. At the adjournment for refreshments tlie visitors were one game to the good, and when play ceased after 11 p.m. they were • returned winners by a margin of-three points. The game at Board 3 was not played, as Jlr. Davies could not attend in time, and it was consequently decided to regard the game as drawn. Tlie losing side was handicapped by the absenco of Messrs. B.
