AIR RAIDERS CROSS ENGLISH COAST
BAFFLED BY THE BARRAGE NO CASUALTIES AND LITTLE ' DAMAGE (Rec. September 30, 5.5 p.m.) London, September 29. A .British official report states: "The. enemy's aeroplanes attacked the southeast coast last evening, and were . reported from various goints along the coa6t of Suffolk, Essex! and Kent. The majority did not journey far inland. A few headed for Loildon, but failed 'to reach the metropolis. Bombs fell in Suffolk, Essex, and (Kent. Reports of casualties and damage have not vet been re-ceived."—Aus.-N.Z.. Cable issn.-Kouter. TWO RAIDERS SHOT DOWN (Bee. September 30, 5.5 p.m.) • London, September 29. The Prc6s Bureau states: "The latest reports indicate that twenty of the enemy's machines participated in last night's raid. The raiders did not penetrate tho outer defences of London. Bombs were dropped on a number of places, in Kent, Essex, and Suffolk. There were no casualties, and very insignificant damage. One aeroplane was shot down in the Thames Estuary and. a second off tho coast."—; Aus.-N.Z. Cable A6sn.-Eeuter. TURNED BACK BYTHE BARRAGE. (Rec. September 30, 5.5 p.m.) ■ London, September 29. The raiders consisted apparently- of three parties. They 'met a barrage of fire of extreme violence and turned back, dropping a number of bombs in Kent. The raid lasted an hour. September 30, 11.5 p.m.) London, September 30. A British, official report states: "The enemy's aeroplanes crossed the coast of Kent and Essex - in groups between eight and nine o'clock last evening. Several attacks were inado on London, bombs being dropped in tho north-eastern -and south-eastern districts, and also on various places in Kent and Essex.
