"PRINCE PIKAMA KAA"
MAORI LANCE-CORPOKAL PLEADS GUILTY TO FALSE PRETENCES. At a general Court-martial at 'Westminster recently a Maori named Heketa, a lance-corporal in the New Zealand Forces, pleaded' guilty to four charges, whioh included the obtaining: of .£45 by falsoly pretending/that he" was Princo Pikama Kaa of JSew Zealand. • Captain Watson (Irish Guards), who prosecuted, said that on March 15 accused was discharged from tho.'New Zealand Hpspital at Codford, and should have ieported at his depot in London. However, he vanished, but on May 11 there appeared in London a prince, though they were one and tho same person. He was dressed as a! lieutenant, and bad adopted a high-flown title. He had visiting cards printed, and had written letters purporting to show ihat ho was in receipt of ,£SOO a month from a firm, of whisky, distillers in Glasgow. The firm knew nothing of him, except that they had been kind to'him when ho was in Glasgow. [The decision in the above case had not been published when the last mail arrived.]
