LAND BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING The'monthly meeting of the Land Board was held yesterday, the Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr. G. H. JI. M'Clure) presiding. There were also present Messrs. J. Dawson, H. T. Eilingham, J. Georgelti, and C. M'lntyre. A report aud valuation were .'ccetved of Section 44, Block VI, Bunua S.D., 3 acres 3 roods 31 perches.—lt was, resolved to re-offer on optional system as iirst-class land ait a capital value of J;2i.

Applications for the grazing of Section 37, Biock 11, Mangaone, ID acres 2 roods 30 'perches, 'were received from Messrs. 51. Ct. Bailey and E. Johansen.—lt was resolved to grant Mr. E. Johansen a permit to occupy from year to year under section 130 of the Land Act, 1908, at a rent of .£2O per annum, subject to tho usual conditions.

In consequence of the recent decision to allot the southern part of Section 3, Block VIII, Ivaitieke S.D., it was resolved to confirm the notice given lo llr. H. Crowhurst that his temporary permit to occupy the cleared area on said section will be terminated on October 21), 1917.

An application for a licence to split timber' on, liaetihi Township Extension was received from F. Lloyd, and declined.

An application was received from ,f. Costello for a licence to split timber on Crown land behind Erua railway station. —The offer was declined.

The" Commissioner reported that half of the available ilax on liaketapauma Block bad been cut under its licence by the Whakapai I'laxmilling Company, and ■that the company is in arrear for royalty to the amount of .£4l Os. 6(1.—1t was resolved to cancel the company's licence, and to recommend that arrears of royalty be sued for.

ftessrs. Trevor and Knight applied for an extension of term in which to cut out milling timber on occupied Sections 10 and 18, Block XII, Kaitieke, included in their licence. —It, was resolved to extend the • term of thase two sections until July 1, 1918, provided that licensees will pay the, rent and county rates for which tenants are liable.

Tho Tiratu Sawmilling Company applied for an extension of term of licence to mill timber on Sections 3 and 4, Block VII, Makotuku S.D., for a period of four years from date fixed for expiry—lt was resolved to point out to the company the necessity for taking immediate steps to re-erect mill and resume cutting operations' at the earliest possible date, so as to comply with the Timber Regulations, and to advise it that an application now for an extension of term is regarded as premature.—lt was further resolved to offer the company a permit to occupy tho cleared portion of milled area under section 130 of the Land Act, IDOB, at a rent lo be fixed;by the Commissioner, subject to usual conditions, and to occupier keeping down noxious weeds. In tho matter of sub-letting grazing on Section 22, Block IV, Kaiticko S.D., by D. Laing, without consent of tho board.—lt was resolved to accept the explanation tendered as satisfactory, and to allow tho rent to stand until tho postponement period expires. Tho Commissioner reported that arrangements had been mado for the_ licence of Section 8, Block V, ihinua S.D., and to be signet! by Jlrs. Gcorgo Gore, whose husband is on active service.

With reference to an offer received from l the lato Mr. J. Newman for old cottage situated on road and river bank reserve at' AVaionc, it was resolved (to advisu Mr. Hodgins, who has acted for Mr." Newman, that tho cotlago may bo removed on payment of XIO. Lindrarl, lessee of Sections 117 and 217, Raetihi Township (Education Reserves), applied to subdivide his holdings, and transfer Section 147 to J. and i|. E. Pedersen.—Approved. Mrs. A. M. Thompson applied to subdivide ' Section 11, Block 11, Kairanga S.D., and transfer a portion containing 15 acres 3 roods 8 perches to the I'eilding Golf Club—Approved. The Wellington Education Board wrote asking that a further area of 5 acres of Education Reserve, Section 168, Block IV, Wairarapa, be handed over to it for school purposes—Approved. W. J. Woolford wrote, stating that the rents at wttich temporary permits to occupy Sections 73* and 75, Livingstone Township, had been offered to him were too high.
