RETURNED SOLDIERS' CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING-. The second annual meeting of the Wellington Eeturned Soldiers' Club-house Society was held in the club rooms last evening. Mr. A. S. Biss presided. The chairman, in movipg the adoption of the annual report and balance-shoet (already published], spoke very appreciatively of the work done during the year by the manager, Mr. J. I. li'oi. He also 6poke highly of the organisations which had lent the club, assistance in various ways. He wished .particularly to thank the Commercial Travellers' Association, which had led in every effort for ihe raising of funds for patriotic purposes. The difficulty of raising funds would be greater as time went on. Many who had given had reached their limit, while others Sad satisfied their conscience in the payment of increased taxation. One of the biggest things with which the incoming committee would have to grapple would be the .question of the club's finances. It must be decided whether a large capital fund should be established, or funds raised from year to year as required. He. considered that the club would probably have to place reliance upon public support in the form of' annual subscriptions and special donations rather than upon the establishment of a capital fund. "
Mr. C. E. Smith, in speaking to the motion, referred to tlie fact that three thousand soldiers had made Ufe ef the club in the course of t'ho year. I'he club, he said, was not a Wellington club, although it was so called. Every soldier throughout New Zealand was by right a member.
Another momber expressed the keenest appreciation of the work done by the civilian members of the committee.
