The following is a. trooper's noto:— On the day the —- crossed the Channel they readied the rest camp soaking wet, nnd in a state of exhaustion. It was' about 2-o'clock in the morning. ■ There was no food, and men were throwing themselves on the boards .to sleep, when several Salvation Army officers came trf say that if we would accompany to their canteen they would look after' the whole of us (1100 men in our' lot atone). We wont, and they ' staved i:p till daylight giving us food siid hot drinks. None will over forget the impression made by this valuable service, and the courtesy with which it was rendered.
