WELCOME TO ROBERT SEMITE
MEETING IN KING'S THEATRE. The Labour organisations of Wellington last night held a combined demonstration at the King's Theatre 1o welcome back Mr. Hobert Semple after his release from prison. The demonstration was held under the auspices of the Social Democratic Party. Mr. H. Holland presided. The theatre was crowded before eight o'clock. Mr. Semple was given a, liearty welcome.. Several speakers well known in'the Labour movement spoke for their unions, and submitted a resolution or two, and at length Mr. Semple made his speech. When ho came forward mi the platform he was welcomed with' applause and cheers. He spoke first of gaol, the place where, in his own words, ho had been "caged like a wild beast, dressed like a clown, and fed like a pjs*" Most of his address, which was probably, from his own people's point of view, the best he has ever delivered in l;i9 lije, was about the future, of the Socialist movement, and the future, ho contended, belongs to Labour. The speech was delivered with all the vigour, and perhaps the extravagance, that makes Mr. Semplo a big man amongst the extremo section o[ the Labour movement.
