PEOFITS TO PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS.
Since the publication of "Historic Trentham," written and compiled by Will Lawson, there has been ample indication that a steady demand tor the book will continue, and that a sui»tan : tial profit will result. Prom the cutset it has been intended by the Camp Commandant that all profits should be devoted to the education of soldiers sons. A definite scheme to this effect is uow announced, in the form of the Irentham scholarships. The conditions goyernu g the award of these have been drafted by Mr. 0. Hogben, Inspector-General of Schools, and they have been aps ed Ho^, 5 sr al c^4 tion, and Colonel H. B. Potter, C.M.G., Camp Commandant of Trentham, who will be the trustees of the fund. Following are the conditions:— The fund for.the Trentham Scholarships shall be vested in three trustees, mentioned above. ~.,,, -i The interest of the fund shall be available for the purpose of scholarships to be awarded and held on the conditions hereinafter prescribed. -The award of the scholarships eliall be made by the trustees, and, except as herein provided, in the same fanner, and the scholarships shall be ,held on the same conditions as the Junior and Senior National Scholarships. The value of the scholarships shall be the same as the vahiu of the Junior and Senior ?>ational Scholarships'respectively. The scholarships shall be awarded to those boy* who stand nest in order of merit to those who have obtained Junior and Senior National Scholarships. (a) Being sons of soldiers of New Zealand Expeditionary Force who have been killed during the war with Geimnny which commenced on August i, (b) Being sons of members of New Zealand Expeditionary Force who have been on active service during the warnlOr?dfailing a sufficient number of such candidates: — . , ... (c) Being eons of members of the military forced of the British Empire who have been on active service during the said war and were at-the time of enlistment domiciled in New Zealand. Or, failing a sufficient number of such candidates: — - (d) Being sone of members of any other branch of His Ma esty's . lorces who were on active service during the same war, if domiciled in New Zealand at the time of enlistment. Or, failing such candidates:- . (e) Being sons of members of any or the New Zealand nival 'or military "irfi-egard to residence and in all other respects the candidates must con. form to the regulations for Junioi or Senior National Scholarships, ae the case may b?, provided that a candidate shall' be held to be qualified for the scholarships if he obtains Kffiregate marks in the examination not lower than 5 per cent, of the possible maxi-mum-below the standard fixed for the JunTor or Senior National Scholarships, a Junior Trentham Scholarship end has qualified for a Senior Trentham Scholarship, such scholarship .shall be awarded to him before the claims of any other candidate are considered..
