A BAKER'S BANKRUPTCY

■ '&. meeting of creditors in the estate of Reuben Alfred Henry Lazarus, baker, of tower Hutt, a bankrupt, who filed a petition on September 10, was held en Thursday, the Official Assignee (Mr. b. Tansley) presiding. In his sworn statement the bankrupt stated that some time ago he commenced to run a poultry farm, but owing to the high cost of fowl feed and other circumstances it did not prqve profitable. He then took over the Lower Hutt agency of the New Zealand Automatic Bakeries, and for twelve months he tried to pull his nffairs together and pay his way. He had bad luck with his horses, and he then purchased a motor-delivery yon, but he continued to get farther into debt. Ho sold his poultry farm, and went out of it with nothing. Ho vns forced to file his petition owing to the pressure of a creditor. Ho had a wile and three children. The amount to unsoonred crftlitors totalled JC46I 55., the rmcipal creditors being: New Zealand Automatic Bakeries, Ltd., .£229; A and P. I'ood Company, .£35; New Zealand Loan ami Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., JJ9, Birch and Co., J25; Coflett Styles,,and Deans, .£37; A. Pickard, -C2O; Wright, Stephens and Co., .£35. The ai-seta totalled JMO. There were only fourcreditors present at the meeting and after a general consideration of the position it was decided to request tie bankrupt to provide a complete statement of receipts and expenditure sir.ee he commenced business about three year* ago, such statement to be presented within a fortnight.
