IMPRISONED SOLDIERS
THE POSITION, OF DEPENDANTS. "I cannot agree with the principle that military pay and allowances .should ba continued on account of- soldiers: who have been imprisoned for military otfences," said Sir Jiinios Allen-- in the House of Representatives yesterday. A soldier's responsibilities-are greater than those of «i civilian, and if he 'so misconducts himself that he is unable to discharge those responsibilities, it is nardlv reasonable to ask the State to continue his pay. If, by the selfish, inconsiderate action of such a man bis dependants are left in want, the man and not the State is to blame. ■ "It is not proposed to absolve such men from their responsibilities to their dependants, but a proposal is being framed under which dependants, who have been left in want- through the crime- or misdemeanour of a soldier, may be aftorded relief." ■ -
