THE TRAMWAYMEN
NEW WORKING AGREEMENT. At tho City Council Inst evening the Tramways Committee reported that an agreement had been arrived at in connection with tho demands of the Tramway Employees' Union. The old working conditions had been practically retained intact, with tho exception of tha night-shift workers in the car-sheds, >vho were to woj'lc six nights per week instead of seven as at present, The increase in wages granted averages from one penny to one penny farthing per hour, with a 5 per cent, bonus on ordinary time. Tho holiday schedule had been improved in favour of the men, so that employees would receive two additional days an. nually after two years' service, instead of three years' as at present. The agreement would come into force -oil October 3, and would operate for a period of two years. * The Mayor, in commenting on the matter, complimented the Engineer wid other officers on the new arrangement. As far as he could see it was fair to the citizens and tho council and honest to the men. There was no further discussion cn the subject.
