NGATORO FOE WELLINGTON. As was previously announced, the Ngsfhere will not come to Wellington this week, but the Ngatofo will call in her stead. The latter vessel should arrive here from Greymouth on Saturday with a part cargo of coal. The balance cf her cargo is for New Plymouth, for which port she should sail on Monday. The Ngatoro wfll sail from the Taranaki port for Greymouth to load again [or Wellington. THE WAIBUNA- INQUIRY. Captain Fleming, Superintendent, of Mercantile Marino at Auckland, has arranged for a Magisterial inquiry, to be opened at Auckland, on Mouaay. October 1, into the loss of the Unoin cargo steamer Wairuna, whioh -is posted as missing. Captains Reed atad Adamson are the nautical assessors. THE MANA. Tho Mana, which has been purchased by the New Zealand Refrigerating Company, is at present at Wanganui, where she will bo recommissioncd next week. Tho vessel is to trade between Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. Captain R. Sproule, who has commanded the same company's scow Eunice, will take charge of the Mana.
WATERSIDERS' BENEFIT OLUB FORMED. There were about 200 members of the Waterside Workers' Uman present at the initial meeting of the Watersiders' Benefit Club, held in X store waiting roojn last night. A set of rules wag adopted and about 100 members .ioined the club, which is independent of the union. Only unionists may join and benefit by the sickneßs and accident fund, which will do aiyay with the subscription syßtcni at present in vogue. MES3-TABLE GOSSIP. Captain It. Sproule. of the Eunice, came ashore yesterday, and Captain A. J. Holm, mate, took command. Mr. G. V. Olsen has signed on as mate on the vesaol. ~ . Mr. J. M'Lean, a chief ofheer in the Union Company's service, has come ashore, and Mr. A. 0. Winter has taken iis place. Mr. H. Speed, assistant radio-telegraphist on a Union Company's steamer, has come ashore at Wellington. Mr. C. W. Richardson, purser on the Maori, has como ashore. . Mr D. M. Chapman, who served lus cadetshil) in the Union Company's steamers Aparima, has passed his examination for a foreign-going second mate's certificate He is now awaiting orders to loin one of the company's vessels as a iunior officer. Messrs. Berrymau, two hrothers, have ,iust completed their cadetshin and have left for their home. Messrs. Don and Tyer, of the Aparima and Niagara, joined the Monowai last week to complete their cadetsliip. At midnight last night tile Manourika Rlinuld have arrived at Grcymouth from Wellington. She is timed to sail at 11 aim. to-day for Westport, Ivclson. and will said at noon to-day for Westport and Greymouth. The Corinna, from Dunedin, via way. ports, will load ca'rgo at Wellington on Thursday for New Plymouth. All alteration has been made m the movements of the Tarawera. wlnoli will allow the vessel to call at Wellington on Tuesday nest from Dunedin, Oanmni. and Lyttclton. She will sail on the following day taking cargo for Auckland diThia morning the Hippie and the Magic will be brought off the slip and the Hincmoa will go on. After the Hinomoa comes off. which will be in a few days time, the Kapiti and Kapuni will be slipped for
overhaul. The Amokura will follow, and when the Jnvercargiil comes to Wellington she will be taken for painting and cleaning. The Breeze is to leave Lyttelton on Saturday for Wellington, from her.e the will go to Wanganui. The Wellington Shipping Company's Hma is due here this morning from Wanganui, and will sail at 5 p.m. for Wanganui and New Plymouth. Dredging operations arc now beiug carried out in the Bullcr River by the bucket dredger Erskine. The dredger is working in the fairway upriver from upstream end of No. 5 berth of Orane Wharf. She will bo hauled out clear when any vessel or vessels are working to or from the wharf in the daytime, aj\d at nighttime; in fair weather she will remain at her moorings about 300 ft. off the wharf. Notices are published in this week's Gazette to mariners who frequent the Gulf of Vincent, South Australia; Port Phillip Bay, Victoria; San Francisco Bay, aud the Argentina coast. A seaman's inpsctor lias been appointed by the Marine Department for Wellington. It will be his duty tq keep a register of seamen and apprentices desiring to be entered on boats, and to supply seamen and apprentices for the ships requiring them. The hulk Kiripaka was beached vcccntlv on the site of the new slip at Wanganui. for the purpose of inspection of the hull by the local inspector of machinery, in view of the proposed purchase of the vessel for conversion'into an insulated burse for the carriage of frozen meat to the roadstead. The hull was found to be in excellent condition, notwithstanding her many years of service. The chairman of Lloyd's Register announces that he has received the, sum of .£20,000,. and has been asked by the donor to administer the same in gifts of £1000. to be divided between the captain, officers, and crew of any merchant ship flying the British flag, which succeeds, in the opinion of the Admiralty, in capturing or destroying an enemy submarine. The Storm arrived last night from Nydia Bay with tiuibcr for Miramar. Sho will 6ail from No. 12 Queen's Wharf at 5 p.m. to-day for Lyttelton.
The Baden Powell will sail at 5 p.m. to-day for Wanganni and Lyttelton, returning to Wellington from the latter port early next week.
The scow Hazel Jtcpton sailed at 4.25 p.m. yesterday for Lyttelton, after b.eing delayed for four days in the stream for the want of a seaman. From Lyttelton the vessel will go to Grey mouth to load timber for Wellington.
The Canterbury Company's Calm was i-c have left Lyttelton at 10 p.m. yesterday for Wellington. Tho ; vessel is advertised to sail at 5 p.m. to-day for Picton and Wanganui.
