THREE CASES DISPOSED OF The Chief Justice, Sir Kobert Stent, yesterday dealt with a rather interesting divorce matter.. A petition was recently hoard, upon which Florence Maud Flowcrdew Brown was granted a decree nisi against her husband, Herbert Patrick Flowordew Drown. Yesterday tho petitioner, for whom Mr. 11. F. Luchle appeared, asked the Court to make an order for the payment of alimony. The respondent, who was represented by Mr. O. W. Neilsen, opposed the application, and asked for a. decree absolute. Mr. Luckie suggested that tho respondent's application hod been made too soon, but contended that, even if this wore not bo, the respondent was not entitled to a decree absolute, aB tho order mado to find security for costs had not been complied with. The respondent gave evidence that he was accountant, secretary, and manager for the New Zealand Automatic Bakeries, Ltd. He was in receipt of £4 15s. per week, while hie wife was in a temporary Government billet at 30s. per week. The wife hod very rich relatives, hut when she camo to him she had nothing. "Witness had asked her to divorce him, as his • relations with her-wore not at all egreeahlo. He had- oommitted a matrimonial offence in order to force her to got a •divorce. It was just as much for her good as for his. Ho had only known her for two weeks when ho married her. and. the lady ho now proposed to marry had been his housekeeper for the last three months. He was only .twenty-four when ho got married, and his wife was eight years his senior.
