The well-known horseman, Hector Gray, who has been without a licence for seme time, has been granted a ticket by the Taranaki Jockey Olub, and will be riding at Otaki on Monday next. The news that Shrill has been scratched for the Ep6om Handicap did not occasion much surprise in these parts. It has always been reckoned that the imported : mare Is very well treated in tho Oaulfield Cup, and her owner, who won the Melbourne Cup last year with Sasanof, may endeavour to win the Caulfleld Cup this year, with-- Shrill. The well-known rider, .T. Olsen, has been ] granted leave by the military authorities until the conclusion of the New Zealand i Cup fixture in November. Multifual, who ran some good races in ] the autumn, has just been taken in ihand again after a spell, and will be got icady ' for the New Zealand Cup. •, Colorado and Detroit, two winners at Dannevirke last week,, are sons of Frisco, : who claimed a New Zealand Cup among I his successes. I Mr G. D. Greenwood has been a con- | sistent supporter of tho Eosehill Guineas, . the race he won on Saturday with Biplane, as on most of the occasions when he has had a team in Australia he has provided a competitor. He was first represented in 1911, when Pcircuc, by Achilleß—Blue Water, was unplaced behind Woolerina, Cisco, and Popinjay. Two years later Cherubini was unplaced. Bean Soult, another New Zealand-bred colt, winning from Radnor and Tofua. In :914 Bimetcr made a better showing, as he was second to Carlita. hut this great mare, who was also bred in the Dominion, won easily. Bimcter and Binlanc, who proved such good winners for Mr.- Greenwood,, were both purchased as yearlings in Australia. The well-known cross-countrjt horseman, R. M'Seveney, who was called up in the last ballot, has been classed 01. Though Bimetcr has been purchased by a Brisbane sportsman he is still in Sydney, and will be raced at the big Ranttvsick Meeting, which opens on Saturday week. At Ric'carton, P. Mason has just taken in hand a two-year-old filly by Dcmos : thenes from Sunglow, for whom tho name of Afterglow has been claimed. The Demosthenes-Savannah filly Lisp, an inmate of the Porirua stables, is to be sent south to contest the two-year-old ovontß at Wingatui next month. ..She will bo accompanied' by the half-brother to Do Gama. ' The Spring meeting of the Otaki Racing Olub,. which this year will be) a oneday affair, will take place on Monday , next. . " v A. Hall has leturned Postillion to his owner, and the black horse's box has been filled by a full-brother, who is named Jutland. • Prior to the Dannevirke Meeting, Alteration proved too good for Glenroy-in a tryout over six furlongs. On the strength of this gallop the good-looking son of Elevation was made iavounto for tne Hack Welter Handicap, but ho failed to flatter his supporters at any stage of the race. . In the only. race he won last season the going was on the hard side, and it may be with him, as with. his sire, that he wantß to hear his hoofß rattling before he can do his best. ~ A Press message . from Sydney 6tates that the New Zealand-owned Australianbred mare Tressida has been spratched for the Epsom and Metropolitan Handicaps.
