BOYS' INSTITUTE
A number of the members of the Boys' Institute were examined recently by the examiners, of the Royal Life Saving Society, and gained in all thirty-four awards. Tne members of tho instituto have during tho past year gained in alt -59 awards for life-saving, made up as follows:—-110 elementary certificates, 106 proficiency certificates, 27 bronze medallions, U silver medallions, 2 teachers' certificates.
The following are the names of the boys who gained their awards recently: Elementary Certificates.—Charles H. Ashbridge, Walter G. C. Ashbridge, Lewis 11. Maple, Denis F. F. Bewley, Charles O'Neil, Fraser Tjpchurch, Atbol J. 'league.
Proficiency Certificates.—Charles H. Ashbridge, Waller G. C. Ashbridge, Ijenis F. F. Bowley, Charles O'Neil, Fraser Upchurch. Bronze .Medallions.—Charles A. G. Bolton. Leo Win. Wliinham, James Kemp Smith, George R. Ashbridge, Harold Newman, Patrick James Coleman, Walter G. C. Ashbridge, Denis F. F. Bewley. Silver Medallions.—William C. M'Gill, Alexander V. I?oss > Walter 0. P. Ha'wke, Reginald "Pearcy, 'Harry Hanson, Patrick James Coleman. Norman T. H. Bing, Christian Rusterholz, Cyril H. J. BnrtTett, Ernest W. Woolcott. William Gilmore, Thomas Columb, W. F. C. Marple, Arthur H. Tarrant.
Tho fact that fourteen silver medallions were won by the members of one class is said to constitute a record, inasmuch as all the members passed, each gaining a fii'st-cTflss pass. During the year not a- single member failed .to pass the test for which ho went forward.
