THE MANXMAN
Hall Caine's great novel of life in the Isle of Man raised a storm of criticism upon its appearance in England It was altogether too frank and too downright, and it dealt with questions that many a sincere reviever thought outside the pro. vince of the written story. Now, however, the book is a classic, and it re. mained for tto inevitable picturisation to be made. Tliis>has been done by the London Film Company, who made "The Prisoner of Zerda" and "Sweet Lavender," and the most sensationaL success of English picture production Has- lie en recorded. For once, at any rate, money was poured out like water, and even the American critics are glad to acknowledge that "The Manxman" as p, film is equal to anything ever made on their side ot the Atlantic. The spectacular scenes are amazing, filmed actually at tho quaint old Isle' ol Man itself, and the 6eenes of the crowds at Tynevald Court and the fine old c'aurch are on a larger scale than anything attempted before by English makers. The stars s.re Henry Ainley (a wonderful performance), Elizabeth Risden, and Fred Groves, the work of the latter being specially commended by the English critics. It is a great film version of a great novel, and will be one of the events in this year's moving picture doings. The season opens at the Kind's Theatre on Saturday next at the matinee. The box plan is now open at Bristol.—(Published by Arrangement.)
