THE TEN POOD COMMANDMENTS.

This is a'translation of a poster which was generally displayed in tlio Prussian railway cars early in the war: First Commandment—Thou shall not eat ~ more than is. nccossnrj. Avoid superfluous eatinsr between meals; thou wilt thereby keep healthy. Second Commandment—Hold thou the broad holy, and use every little piece of bread as 'human nutriment. Dry bread crust makes a palatable and nutritious soup." Third Commandment—Save"thou on butter and fats. Spread thy bread with syrup; jam, or marmalude. A large part of all fats have we- hitherto obtained; from abroad. Fourth Commandment—Sustain ihyself onvmilk and cheese. Partake also of skimmed milk and buttermilk. Fifth Commandment—Use thou much sugar in. thy-food,. for sugar is an excellent nutriment. Sixth Commandment—Boil thy potatoes only with the jackets on. Thereby wilt thou save one-fifth of thoirvalue. Sovonth . Commandment—Uso thou less beer and other alcoholic clrfi.-ks. Thereby wilt thou'increase our pain , and potato supply, which .are used for producing beer and alcohol. Eighth Commandment—Eat thou.rmch vegetables anil fruit, and use tliou ovory little corner of thy ground for planting vegetables. Spare thou I | )e canned vegetables while f rejh vegetables are in season. Ninth Commandment—Savn tl'ou all kitchen waste and garbago for animal food. Give thou care, iowjvpr, that no objectionable matter V>o mixed in with such wasfo. Tenth Commandment—Cook and heat with gas or coke. Thereby wilt thou aid the supply of important fertilisers which are obtained from the manufacture of gas and cok_o; which also furnishes important auantities of nitrogen containing (unmoniatee. • Give thou attention to all theso commandments that thou mayest thereby save for the Fatherland.
