■ A performance of quite a unique and interesting character, under the patronage and In the presence of Her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool is to be given in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall on the afternoon of Saturday, September 29. The recital, which is being organised by Mrs. P. -T. Nathan and Miss Estelle Beere, is being arranged as follows :-Each adult who patronise, the performance'is to receive a surprise envelope containing a number, and (his number will, bo a present, which will be delivered to the bearer on Wednesday, October 3, at the Wellington Red Cross Shop, Lambton Quay. Through tho generosity of various wholesale and retail houses, besides many private donors, a large number of presents, many of which are of a valuable nature, have been received. Included imong them is a beautiful original etching, a valuable gold wristlet watch, a smoker's cabinet (valued at .£7 105'.),. antique jewellery, and many orders on different business houses. Besides this attraction for adults, the children have been specially provided for m the way of an Allied soldiers' tree, which will be laden with fascinating articles to be given to the little folk on the day of the performance. The performance itself is of an interesting and uncommon character, consisting of. Allied fairy tales, recited by Mrs. P. J. -Nathan, nationa songs sung by M. Eugene Ossipoff, and national dances arranged by Mi6s Beere. An efficient orchestra, under the baton of Mr. Tombs, will also add greatly to the enjoyment of the'entertainment, as well as 'the valuable services of Miss Valerie Corliss at the piano. Some of the presents aTe now on view at the Bristol, and seats for this highly interesting performance will be reserved there from Monday, September 21 Intending' pntrons will be wise to book seats early, as the seating capacity of the Concert Chamber is someifhat limited. The total proceeds are in aid of the Thorndon Day at the Wellington Red Cross Shop, and a very capable committee, headed by Mrs. Fulton and Mrs. C. Richardson, are devoting all their energies to assure the success of the undertaking. Surprise shilling envelopes are to be sold in the streets on Wednesday and Thursday week, and the numbers contained in them will entitle the purchasers to the prizes shown in the Bristol window. 1 '■■ "—
