MILK CLEARING STATION
TENDERS CALLED. The initial step in the new municipal milk-vending scheme has been taken in securing a site for, and calling i'or tenders for the erection, of, the new temporary milk cleaiinß station at' Thorndon Quay. This station is to be erected at the roar of • the factory of C. M. Banks, Ltd., on a piece of ground which fronto the Thorndon station, and is therefore conveniently situated for all' milk supplies which reach town from the Manawfttu line. Supplies from l?eatherston and the Hutt Valloy, which come to thu Lambton. station, will have to be convoyed back to tlie clearing station by horse or. motor wagons before it is liberated for distribution. The building (for which tenders are now being called) will be a plain unadorned parallelograminic structure, 80ft. by 30ft., built of timber, with a concrete floor (3ft. high), and a felt roof. On the railway frontage there will bo four pairs of double sliding doors, which will enable eight carts or'motors to back into the station, at one time if necessary, to load, or unload cans. This will be made comparatively ensy by the floor of the buildine being built carthigh. The concrete floor will be gently graded from each, sido to a central channel, which will run the full length of the building. The building will be especially well ventilated, fine perforated zinc bointr placed over the ventilating louvres to make the place as nearly lly-proof as possible. An abundance of light is being provided and all facilities for the inspoctioE ot milk are being provided. . Tonders for the erection of the miUc station' close on Saptembor 20.'
