A STEAMER LOST
THE FATE OF THE WAIRUNA. Tho fate of the long-overduo steamer Waimna was referred to in. Parliament yesterday. Mr. Poole asked the Minister of Marine whether any steps, were being taken to locate the Wairuna\ or to discover whether any survivors p 11 ? 1 " be living on some of the Pacific Islands. Tho Minister said the Wairana sailed for San Francisco on May 30, and had jever been heard of since. She was probably lost, whether as a result of war conditions or by accident he could notsay. An inquiry would bo commenced in Auckland during the next few days, in order to carry out the law, and to ascer j tain the condition of the ship when she left New Zealand. The Marine Department would make. investigations as to the probable route of ,tho Wadruna, with tho objeot of having any islands in the vicinity soarchcd. Mr. Poole: Has nothing been done already?
