The patronage accorded to the "lied Triangle" Cako Boom recently started by the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Y.M.C.A. showjs that these enterprising ladies have effectively succeeded in meeting a. felt want. Every Wednesday from 10 a.m. onwards the ladies have on sale in their premises, above Littlejokn's jowellery establishment, Lambton Quay, a display of home-made cakes, jams, sweets, flowers, and fresh country produce. Mrs. Wright and Miss Hatch are tho ladies in charge of tho room to-morrow, and in response lo numerous requests they have prepared a special line of fruit cakes suitable for sending to the front as Christmas gifts. Tho conveners of tho committee organising the cako room, Mesdnmes Piper and Bray, express their thanks to all members of the Ladies' Auxiliary and to tho following others who have- given valuable help:—Alesdames Curtis, Atkinson, Houston, Kreest, Donald, Harris, Chapman, Ward, Colvin, Hamerton,' sonr., and Miss Perkins.
Miss Phoebe Myers has received a lettor from the lion, secretary and organiser of the Sub-committee for Naval Dependants, expressing great appreciation of file work sent in by Hie schools in the district and outside. She writes:— "The sewing of the children is excellent, and I am more than grateful for their help. . . . To-day my committee inspected the garments, and were delighted with them."

The entertainment to be given in the Town Hall Concert Chamber on Saturday afternoon, September 20, promises to bo an exceptionally good one. A most attractive programme is being organised by Mrs. Phil Nathan aud Miss Bcere, aud Her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool will be present. The Allied Anthems will bo sung by M. OssipolY. Mrs. Nathan will recite National Fairy Talcs, and Miss Boere is arranging suitable dances. In connection with this entertainment the Mayor has granted permission for the sale of surprise envelopes iu the streets on Tuesday and AVcdnesday, September 25 and 2fi. This idea lias developed into a big affair. Every envelope will contain a number, which will entitle the purchaser to a prize, aud also to a chance in a big art union, by means of which many valuable prizes will be given n»:ay. Some of 'heso prizes will bo exhibited next week in the window of the Bristol Piano Company's premises. Mrs. ,T. E. Fulton, of Golder's Hill, will bo glad to receive from those interested in the success of Thorndon Day gifts, "surprise" bags, or orders for goods to bo piven away in connection with the envelopes. Tho whole undertaking.is being organised by Mrs. Masscy. Tho takings at tho Masterton patriotic shop on Saturday amounted to JC275, Vhc proceeds are to be devoted lo tho Salvation Army's Trench Comforts Fund. A LETTER DF APPRECIATION. 'Wounded Soldiers' Entertainment. An enjoyable entertainment was given at the Pavilion, Day's Buy, on Saturday evening by a parly ot the wounded soldiers from Hie Taumuru Convalescent Itome, Lowry Bay. Tlui first, part of the programme consisted,of musical items given, by the nurses and soldiers, assisted by Miss Phoebe Parson's. Tho "Taumaru Triflers" were responsible for much mirili in the second half of tho programme, when they presented a. small i'a'rce, entitled "A Breach of Promise." Most effective and charming were Iho frocks worn by the "ladies," whose masculine voices were scarcely in keeping with their frocks, which tho programmo assured tho audieneo wore made by Paquin. The proceeds, which amounted to <E2O 17s. 6d„ were handed over fo tho Day's Bay Ladies' Red Cross Fund, now bringing the total for their day to close on .£3OO.
On Wednesday. afternoon, September 5. a pretty wedding look place at. the Kont Terrace Presbyterian Church, when Miss Edith Brown was married to 'Air. Clarence T. Thomson, the Rev. Dr. Kennedy Elliott officiating. Tho bvido was dressed in whito crcpe-de-chino, with hand-painted voil, and carried a bouquet of frec6ias and maidenhair fern, and also woro a: cameo brooch, tho gift from tho bridegroom. There wero two bridesmaids, Miss H. Brown (sister or mo bride) and Miss G. Walton (cousin of the bridegroom). They wore pink crope-de-chino dresses, with pink and blackhats, and carried bouquets of pretty pink ffoivers. They also wore ruby and gold pendants, tho gift of tho bridegroom. Mr. T. M'Leod and Mr. H. Keswick acted as best man and groomsman respectively. Aftor tho ceremony a reception was held at the Columbia Private Hotel, where the largo dining-room was beautifully decorated with flags and flowers for the occasion. Later in- the evening Mr. and Mrs. Thomson left for the south, where the honeymoon is to bo spont. "Amongst tho many handsome presents there wero a silver entree dish, the gift of the bridegroom's fellow N.C.O.'s of tho Somes Island Guard.
On Friday afternoon an excellent concert was given in both wards of the Victoria Military Hospital. It was arranged by Mrs. S. Hempton. The artists included Signor and Signora Molinari, Signora Molinari's numbers were "Coming Homo" and "Scenes That are Brightest," and Signor Molinari's "Let Me Like a Soldier Fall" and "Questa o Quella." Their -duets were "Somewhere a Voice is Calling" and "Come. Sing to me." Mrs. Hempton, who is a pupil of Signor Molinari, sang "Your Eyes Have Told Me So," and "There's a Big Lot of Sunshine Coming Soon." Miss Shirly Cook, of the Pierrots, contributed "Hallo, Tu-Tu" and "Catch Me," aud Mr. Norman Aitken, who is always a favourite, gave "When Are Tou Going Away?" and "Spottie." Miss Shirly Cook made an admirable accompanist. The concert olosed by Signor and Signora Molinari singing the "Marseillaise"
