A GERMAN PLOT
SWEDEN INVOLVED ITALIAN VICTORIES ALARM AUSTRIA FURTHER FRENCH GAINS NAVAL BATTLE IN BALTIC PROBABLE The American Government has made public a series of sensational documents showing that the Swedish Minister to Argentina has been acting as a German agent and sending and receiving messages to and from Berlin in furtherance of the enemy submarine campaign. The facts are attested in a British official Teport, and messages from America give arresting details of the intercepted documents. An engagement is reported between an Allied merchant convoy of twenty-two vessels and an enemy flotilla of seven submarines. Pour of the merchant ships and three ' U-boats were mink. An unchanged situation is reported in the Baltic Provinces. The enemy claims further progress, and it is stated that the German Baltio Fleet, reinforced by part of the High Seas Fleet, is steaming north to engage the Eussian Fleet. In a speech, reported to-day, Ifr. Lloyd George declares his belief that Eussia will recover and play a great part before the end of the war. He also reiterates his conviction that the'enemy submarine campaign has failed, Another French advance is reported on the Verdun front.
