MONEY MAIIKET. The Bank of Eneland discount rate was on January 2. 1914. reduced from 5 to 41 per cent., on January 22 it waa reduced to 4 per cent., and on January 28 3 per cent. On July 30 the rate was raised to 4 per cent., aud on July 31 It was raised tc 8 ner cent., and on August 1 it wae further advanced to 10 tier cent. On August 6 the rate mae reduced to 6 per cent., on August 7 it was further reduced to 5 Dor cent., on July 13, 1916. it was raised to 6 per cent., on January 12, 1917, it was reduced to 5J per cent., -and on April 5 it waa further reduced to 5 per cent. . OPEN MARKET KATISB. The open-market discount rate for three months' bills at 43 ner cent., as compared with 43 per cent, last week and 5| per cent. laet year. . Short loans aro quoted at 41 per cent, as against 4} per cent, last week and 4J per cent, last year. COMMONWEALTH LOAN SCRIP. Commonwealth loan scrip is emoted at three-sixteenths discount. COLONIAL AND OTHER PRODUCE. Wheat and Hour.—Business is at a standstill, pending the operation of tho Commission's now prices on September 17. Oats, Peas, and Beans.—Firm,' but inactive. Sugar.—Unchanged , . Butter.—There is a great scarcity, but prices are mostly unchanged. Danish is nominally at 3005.. but little is- beiriK shipped from Denmark, the bulk of it being consumed locally, owing to tho shortage of margcrine. THE METAL MARKETS. Tin.-'Spot.—J32W 17s. 6d.: three months, £240 ft. 6d. Stocks. 20.678 tons; spot. 3804 tons; afloat. 4973 tons; deliveries, 1027 tons. Bar silver, 48Jd. per onnco standard. Other metals are unchanged.
