The interruption in shipping communication between the Dominion and A ustralia through tho Australian, striko has put a number of millers in the awkward ■position of having to close down or run on 6ingle shifts, owing to the scarcity of wheat. One of tho InTge mills in Christchurch-has closed down, and another is curtailing 'its 'output of flour, prdy email odd lots of wheat aro to bo obtained, but it is jknown that a line, including twof seasons' wheat, is still held, by one grower. Bran and pollard are very 6carce, and oats are scarce and veiy firm. There is no ehnngo _in oatsheaf chaff. For potatoes prices have improved, and tho ruling figure is now ,£3 to £3 ss. at country stations. THE EGG MARKET Messrs. LIVE STOCK SALES The, New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency 00., Ltd., report having held a very successful salo of dairy cows, etc.. - on account of Mr. 11. Cavanagh, Mangatainoka, on Friday last. A good attendance of buyers was present, and though the cows were in low condition bidding wns particularly animated throughout the salo. Cows with calvos and cows on tho drop made £18. £17 155., £17 55., £15, £14 155., £14 10s„ £14 ss„ to £10 10s.; late oalvers, £5 15s. to £10; springing heifers, £7 to £7 155.: hull, £6 155.; wcaner heifers, £4 7s. 6d.; m.s. weaners, £4; 6mall hoggets, 20s. Pigs,' sundries, etc., sold at full clearing . sale rates. The K.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. report :— On Monday we held a salo of dairy stock on account of Mr. W. B. V. Pearco, Kaiigiotu. Notwithstanding the ini clement weather there was a' very large attendance, buyers being nresent from Waikato, Taranaki. Jlasterton. and local districts. Competition was brisk throughout, and tho whole herd of 205 head told at satisfactory prices; 81 cows in milk averaged £8 18s. Bd., seling from £7 to £16; 71 springing cows' averaged £10 165., beat prices being £14 10s.. £15 10s., £15 155., £16 55., £18 10s.; 42 heifers in calf (some Email and backward), averaged £7 2s. 9d.. makisg from £5 to £11 10s.; 2 and 3-yoar Holstcin bulls, £10, £10 15s„ £11 55.; 2-year S.H. bulls, £14 10s., £16, £16 55.; 4-year S.H. bull, £13 10s. The Wairarapa Farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd., report having held a very successful clearing salo on account of Mr. \V. J. CBsely, at Rongokokako. The stock came forward in fair condition, and met with keen competition from & large attendance. The herd averaged £11 55., which must bo considered very satisfactory.
