HARBOUR BOARD LANDS

; SEVERAL BLOCKS TAKEN UP. 1 "The property market iu "Wellington : is more active than I have seen it for ' years," said a well-known real estate agent to a Dominion reporter yesterday. There is building activity to be seen in nearly all the suburbs, and the only check on a far greater activity is the very substantial riso' which has taken place in the price of building material. Tho building activity is not restricted, however, to the suburbs. During the past few -weeks the Wellington Harbour Board has received several inquiries abouts its reclaimed lands,'and has done more business in. the leasing of its .lands than for a long time past. The big block oi„Ja.ud on tho corner of Waterloo Quay and Cornwell Street (with 212 feet frontage to.the latter street), containing in all 1 aero 1 rood and 29 perches, lies been leased to the Wellington Meat Export Company, which intends sooner or later to utilise tho land for the purpose of extending its freezing business. 'Another block on the corner of Pryntt Quay and Cornwell Street, containing 3 roods 32 perches, has been leased to the firm of Wright; Stephenson and Co., stock and ■ station agents, and wool merchants. Sections containing 3 roods 3.2 perches, situated on the southern side of CornweU Street, have been leased to: E. W. Mills and Co as a 'site for a bulk store. The Te Aro reclamation block, which has been before the public for some years, will also' show signs of "the big oush" shortly. Messrs. C. and A. Odlin s big brick block has been reinforced throughout, and another story is being added. The block opposite Odlir.'s, and bounded bv Cable Street. Jflvvois Quay, and Lower Tanuiaki Street, has now been taken up in iti entirety. Messrs. John Chambers and Son are to build there, and went-as far as to sink concrete foundations when t'u> work was suspended owing tn the difficulty Hint was experienced in setting certain building material. The other nnvt of the same block has now been taken -up on lease by Messrs. Tnglis Bros., motor imnorters, who intend erecting a substantial warehouse thereon for their business.
