WESTLAND TAILORING DISPUTE. By IteloKraph—Press Association. Greymouth, August 31.. The Conciliation Council sat to-day, Mr. Hagger * presiding, to hear the Westland tailoring dispute. The terms of the old award were accepted except that several minor alterations were agreed to consisting'of a clause providing for the employment of female apprentices where it was impossible for 'the employer to obtain males, also the inclusion of an underrate workers' clause. The following increases in wages were agreed upon: —Males, from .E3 to .£3 3s. Females: Coat hands, 30s. to 31s. 6d.; trousers, vest, and skirt hands, from- 253. to 275. 6d.; first-class machinists, from 30s. to 31s. 6d.; secondclass machinists, from 255. to 275. Cd. Under the log, log-rates are increased— males from Is. to Is. Id. per liaur, female coal hands from 9d. to 10d., trousers and skirt hands from Bd. to 9d., vest hands Sd. to 85d. The scope of the award is the whole of the Westland industrial district, and the award is to come into operation on September 24, and remain in force for three years.
