By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, August 31. It is reported that the coastal steamer Mane, a well-known Wellington vessel, has been purchased by a Dunedin syndicate, and is coming south soon. Her future movements have not been disclosed. rilhc Mana is a vessel of 134 tons, and belonged to the South Taranoki Shipping Company. She was at one time a regular trader between Wellington- and !Patea„ but has been laid up at the latter port for a considerable time. The representative 'of the South Taranaki Company stated yesterday that although the Mannwas under offer, no information had beejn received in Wellington of tho reported sale.] MESS-TABLE G.OSSIP. Captain Bone, marine superintendent Tor the New Zealand Shipping Company, has returned to tho south for a visit to Auckland. Captain W. D. Cameron, master of the Mararoa, has come ashore, and Oaj;tain J. Baldwin, a well-known master in, the Union Company's service, hau taken command. The Tainui is to arrive from Wanganui this morning to load at Miramar for Wanganui. She will sail this evening. Up till a late hour laßt night there was no sign of the Oponri from Lyttelton. She is to go to Greymouth from ■ this port. Tho West Coast passenger service stenmcr Mapourika is to leave .Nelson at 1 a.m. to-day for Wellington direct, and should arrive at about 10 a.m.

The Rosamond is duo hero on Tuesday meriting from Bluff. Dunedin, and Timaru, and is to sail in the evening for Nelson toad New Plymouth with oarso only.
Tins auxiliary schooner Houto is now loading benzine at Duucdin for Invcrcargill. The vessel's future movements havo not yet been deliuitcly fixed, hut she is expected to return to Dunedin about the end of the week, when an official trial run will lake place with her now engines. The crew of the GisNorno dredge John Townley havo been paid off pending the replacing o£ the dredge in commission again. Mr. Townley, chairman of the Gisboruo Harbour Board, stated last week that the boiler, which was manufactured in Scotland, had arrived in Wellington. Having come out practically as a shell, it is necessary to fit the boiler tubes in position at the contractor's workshops at Wellington before sendiug it on to Gisborne. The Auckland Harbour Board report that the bank off Kakanatua, west of Point, has made considerably to the soiuliwest, and has also shoaled. In order, to clear this bank masters of vessels entering the Manukau Harbour should, after passing the Signal Staff, open the Ninepin Rock well clear of Paratutai until abreast of Puponga Point. The Napier Harbour Board has notinea the Marine Department that on and after September 14 the flagstaff which :s now used for showing tidal signals at the Eastern Pier, Port Ahuriri, will be moved to the corner of the "D" shed, West Quay, and alongside of the night signal tiao ' The shipping journal "Fairplay" states that Treasury sanction having been obtained for tho issue of £500,000 P. and O. deforred stock to be given. 111 exchange for Union Steam Ship Company s shares tho arrangement which was sanctioned at, the P and 0. general meeting held in London on Juno 27 was at once carried through. .
