SERIOUS BUT HOPEFUL
'iTEAT EXPORTERS' OUTLOOK:.
Referring to meat exporting prospects, Mr. W. G. Foster, speaking at the annual meeting of the Wellington Meat Export Company yesterday, said: "The outlook as regards shipment of stock's on hand and to accuro during ensuing season, whilst serious, may bo regardod hopefully. Even if no greater assistance than Ims been available during tho past year is provided no great fear need be felt as to next' year's product of meat and dairy produce, providing the present cold storage is fully used, and any. surplus power which exists is availed of, especially as tho Imperial Government has sanctioned tho halving of carcasses of l'ro.;en mutton and lamb, which will economise storage space in both stores and ships to t*io extent of 20 per cent., and similarly in beef to tho extent of Wmut 12i per'cent. Surplus power already exists at certain works which can, at no great cost, be utilised for cheese storage. Should shipping, however, Iμ further reby submarine or other action, it would, so far as meat production is concerned, bo possible to lighten tho presuro on frozen storage by cunning old and cull ewes. Both tho North and South Islands are stated to be understocked, and thus no national loss would be felt-
