THE "HAS-BEENS" OF RUGBY
DESIKE TO HELP THE PAEK FUND. Footballers in places far outside Wellington are taking ivn interest in the effort to save Athletic Park. This is a letter received by a member of the Wellington Union from Mr. M. Wood, who, in his day as a Rugby player, represented Wellington, Canterbury, Auckland, Hawke's Bay pud New Zealand:— "I think there is still a great deal of sentiment regarding football lying dormant, and -it only wants some function to open up tlia old traditions. jYou oould get "your .£3OOO or a good part of it by playing a "lias beens" North v. South Island at Wellington. I have mentioned the matter to one or two old followers, affd it is rather astonishing, tho enthusiasm it invoked. All players would, I feel sure, pay their own expenses from different parts and billet themselves in Wellington. Footballers, and footballers only, could have done what tho Anzacs did at'Gallipoli. Fully 75 per cent, of tho first Contingents wero nurtured in tho game." Additional subscriptions to the Park Fund since last week are:—M. E. Wood, £1; H. Baillie, 10s.; E. T. Kedward, £1 Is.; J.
