A magisterial inquiry will be lield into the circumstances surrounding the collision between the steamer Invcrcargill and the Terawhiti in Wellington Harbour recently. A date for the inquiry has not been fixed and until this i 8 done the assessors will not be appointed. THE INVEROARGILTi. The coastal steamer Invcrcarcill returned to port at 10.45 o'clock last night, as she was leaking at the bow. The vessel sailed for W-anßonui at about 8.30 p.m., and when nearing the Heads it was found that water was finding its -way in through near the stem, which has just been repaired after the collision between the Invercargill and the Terawhiti in the Harbour recently. NO SYDNEY STEAMER. The local office of tho Union Company have not received advice about the sailing Irom Sydney of the weekly steamer for Wellington, MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Captain Daniel Mackenzie, of the auxiliary schooner Huia -will shortly complete hia sixteenth year aB master of that vessel. Mr. A. Sadler has joined a Union Company's vessel aa chief engineer in place of Mr. A. H. Watson, who procecde to Dunedin for orders. Mr., J. Cable, late of the Arahura. has joined tho Monowai as chief engineer, relieving Mr. 0. H. Dilner, who proceeds to Auckland to join the Arahura. ■ Tho Defender will Joad 100 tons of rails and sail for Picton, QreymouVh, ana EoSP tika, at noon to-morrow. The Ngatoro is fixed to sail to-nieht for Greymouth. The Calm will sail to-nighC for Lyttelton, Bluff, Dunedin, and Tiina.ru. The Himitangi will sail to-day for Lyttelton, returning to Wellington on Thursday. Tho overhaul of the Mararoa's boilers ■will tako longer than was at first anticipated, and consequently the vessel will remain in Wellington for nearly a week. The steamer, which is maintaining the running, leaves from the Ferry Wharf. Tho auxiliary schooner Huia with a. part cargo of explosives left last night lor Westport and Greymouth. From the Coast, she -will no to Oainaru, where she will load for Auckland. The Koutunui will leave this afternoon with case oil for East Coast bays. The auxiliary schooner Eunice is due at Wellington from Timaru at the end of this week, when she will be dispatched to Havelock with general cargo. The costal steamer Tainui. which has been used for lightering at Wanganui. Ie due here to-day from that port, via Picton. She is to sail for Timaru to-night. As the steamer Hippie did not arrive until Jast night, the return trip to Napier and Akitio will not bo taken until to-morrow afternoon. On this trip the vessel will not take cargo for Gisborne. The Monowai is not expected to arrive hero from northern ports until Tuesday. She will Bail tho same day for Lyttelton and Dunedin. Tho Corinna was to have loft Dunedin last night for way ports, and Wellington. Sho ie duo on Friday—one day late—and mil sail the same day ior Nelson and New Plymouth. The Union Company's collier Pohcrua. is. to leave Westport to-day with coal for Wellington. 6he will proceed to Picton and Onchunga after discharging here.
