WAR RELIEF BONUS
Sir,—ln Tun Dominion* of the 15th instant I read that a war bonus of five shillings per week was to be given to old-age pensioners, Jlaori war veterans, etc., and in a previous issue of The Dominion; lad noticed that the war bonus to Civil Servants was to be continued, but I have seen no mention of this war bonus being given to pensioners undor the Teachers' Superannuation Act. Tho averago pension paid to the rank and file of retired tcachrrs is in the
vicinity of ,£IOO a year, and, of many get considerably less, whilst th.» liension for the- widow of a retired teacher is the magnificent one of .£l4. a year. There may be tome very good reason why this bonus jshould not he given to retired teachers, but if . u o the public ought to be told what the reason, is. Surely a retired teacher or the. widow of a teacher is as much entitled, if not more so, io. this bonus thau some of those to whom it has been given. I write in the hope that some member of Parliament reading this lettei v may see his way to bring the subject n.V in 'tile House.—l am, etc., FAIR PL:AY.
