WAR FUNDS
THE COLLECTING COMMITTEE LATEST MOVEMENTS Last evening a general meeting of tlio War Guilds Collecting Committee was held in the City Council chamber. '.Uiero was an attendance of about thirtyfive, oy.or which the Mayor (Jlr. J. 11.I 1 . Luke) presided. The Mayor explained what had been done at a previous ineetintr, and then moved as follows, stating tfiat this motion waa practically to rescind a resolution formerly agreed on:—"That tho iatlies and gentlemen present form themselves into a committee for tho purpose of collecting funds for the Bed Cross Our emblematio of the sport they represent. Fund, Navy League, and the War Relief Association of Wellington, such committee to be called the War Funds Collecting Committee, and to have power to add to their number." Mr. M. Carr seconded the motion. He said the committee would exist independent of any other body, and purely to collect war funds. Mr. Tripp, on behalf of tho T-'ar Kelief Society, supported the motion. What was suggested was to collect for the blind soldiers and sailors, and in February to mal?e an effort for the war relief. Flo thought words should be added to ihe resolution empowering the committee to collect funds for any other patriotic purpose. Mr. P. Man ton thoiurht inca.pacitated soldiers should be included in the proporal. Mr. T. Young pointed out that incapacitated men would bo provided for out of the War Relief Funds. The motion was carried. Sub-committees were then set up to carry out various works. WAYS ANDJIEAKS SPORTS PEEPARING BIG EFFORT. Ways and means of raisyig money for the Mayoress's Christina?: Gift Fund were considered at a committee meeting last evening. It was decided to adopt a suggestion hy Mr. A. Marriott, chairman of iho Snorts Committee. The suggestion waa lliat all tho snorts organisations in Wellington should join in a general appeal to fhe citizens in behalf of the fund. The idea was that every association or. c*ub sTiould provide a stall and assistant; for the sale of flowers, badge', produce, etc.; the stallholders to be dressed ('"'H'niiifltic of the "snort they represent. It was stated that the Swimming Association had promised to have a stall, nnil tlib Rugby Union would consider tho r..atter to-night. Processions are to be held to the Basin Reserve, where a function will be held. Concert "parties and bands w'll l>e utilised, and it is suggested that at (Tie stalls baskets of flowers and other memerifos of prominent athletes who hays given their lives or have distinguished themselves should be auctionel.

Kirlvcaldic and Stains to promote a danco and a pageant was accepted.
The dates decided on for ftese efforts were T'ovember 30 ond December 1.
