New Zealand Natives' Association Fair. Yesterday evening a patriotic fair, organised by tho New Zealand Natives' Association, was opened in tho Concert Chamber of tho Town Hall by the Mayoress (Mrs. J. P. Luke), in the absenco of the association's president, the Hon. A. L. Herdinan, who was prevented by Cabinet duties, from being present. Tho Mayoress was received by Mrs. M'Vicar, president;of tho Ladies'' Guild, and Mr. C. M'lntyre, secretary, and in a brief spoech appropriate to Ilic occasion declared iho fair open. Tho Chamber presented a very gay and attractive appearance, all the stalls, which represented tho Allies, having- been draped in Iho colours of these nations, (lowers and foliage- also adding to the. decorativp effect of tho ''tout ensemble." A great variety of articles stocked the stall?, comprising produce of all kinds, sweets, tobacco, flowers, faucy work, surpriso packets, etc. Tho surprise packet stall (representing Belgium) was in ch.irgo of Mpsdamps Ousnck and Cooper, n.iul the articles which were to form the "surprise" for the purchaser* were of unusually good value. In addition to the surprise paclcefs every one of which contained a prize, there were placed in a number of them tickets for an extra "special prize," the corresponding num. ber to which is container in a. sealed list in possession of tho Mayor, this list to bo opened at the end of tho week. Among theso special prizes are somo very handsome and useful articles, inclusive of n, diamond and emerald .ring, a gold bracelet, jui eiderdown (jitilt (satin), a pair of blankets, gold • poncil cases, ■brooches, pendants, etc. In charge of the other stalls were the following:— Fancy (British), Mrs. Windsor and Miss Sinclair; tobacco find sweote (Italian), Mrs. Hemptou; (lowers iFrance), Misses Russell and Evans; produce, Mr,?. M'Vioar and Mr. Pyb; afternoon tea, Mrs. Irwin and Mrs. Futter. In tho evening an excellent concert representative of New Zealand talent (inclusive of songwriters, composers, and poete) was given, Madame Mueller having arranged the programme. Contributing were: Mr. W. Perry, who recited; Misses Cooley, V. .Mueller, Dorothy Halliburton (who wore Maori costume), Mia Irene Fairclougli, and Mr. Bryant, who sang; Miss Freda AValter, a violin eolo; Mollis Griffin, a dance; and Mr. Leo. Shaddick, a whistling solo. The committee responsible for the bazaar were: Messrs. G. Gapes, C. M'lnlyvc, E. Cpoke, F. Gapes, G. Ridley, H. Parsonage, C. Morris, M'Masters, Baker, and .T. Windsor. This evening them will l)e a Punch and Judy show in charge of Mr. Hosie, of Newtown, and on every evening tlioro mil be various side-shows in charge of Messrs. Windsor, Griffiths, and Gapes. The failwill open every night this week until Friday eveuing (inclusive) at half-past seven, and iho proceeds are to bo devoted to the guild's camp entertainment fund as well i>3 to tho fund for supplying littlo comforts to tho soldiers in tho hospitals. Should thoro be any surplus it will be added to iho association's . soldiers' memorial fund.

Luke, has askod tho Indies of tho Forget-me-not Club, Lynll Bny, to repeat the very successful children's carnival which was given in the Maranui Church Hall some weeks ago, for the benefit of her Christmas Pudding Fund for tho soldiers nt tho front. The club has agreed to do eo, and the carnival will be held on Wednesday evening in tho samo hall, beginning at 7 o'clock. Miss Nestn- Carwcll Cooko and her pupils will give exhibitions of fancy dancing, and some very fimall children will contribute action songs. Mr. and Mrs. Culford Bell and their pupils are also contributing to .the programme. An old resident in (lie person of Mrs. Jane Stubley died at Hastings on Sunday, at the age of 75.

Tho Wellington College boys, led Vγ I their head prefect, H. M. Caselberg, organised a patriotic danco last Saturday evening. It was a very great success, and the boys and girls came in numbers to support tho clVort and enjoy themselves. Tii" West School, which is piirturesque at all times, was transformed into a bright scene, and the stern reality of the everyday life within its walls was soon forgotten. Soveral soldiers (Old Boys) were present, and those- at tho front were not forgotten. The long list of vor.v honoured Old BoysVhoso names are written on tho everlasting memorial of fame, was much read, and memories revived, and wishes of good luck expressed for them. Just before the dance Mrs. I'irth announced that the National Anthem and the "Marseillaise" would be sung, and at tho end of the evening they would again sing the- "JJarsoillaiso" and the 'Xntional Anthem. Assistance in carting tho wasto from the local to the central depots, and finally from tho central depot to tho railway station, from which it will bo shipped to the heavy woollen districts of Yorkshire, is specially desired.
