DEATH UNDER ANAESTHETIC

INQUEST AT THE HOSPITAL. \n inquest was held on Saturday afternoon by Mr. S. E. M'Carthy. S.M., concerning the death of William Frederick Cox, GO years of age, who died at tho Hospital' on Friday while under an anaesthetic. Cox was Buffering; from an extensive nnd. old-standing cancer pi the tongue. Hβ was operated on by Drs. Barclay and Christie, and diett after the operation, but before leaving the operating theatre. The anaesthetic —ether—was administered by Dr. litzgerald, and the operation, ivhich began at 11.15 a.m., finished at 1.30 p.m. Before the operation Cox was examined by Dr. Fitzgerald, who "ound that he was in a fit state to receive tho anaesthetic. After hearing tho evidence the Coronor returned a verdict that death was due to heart failure caused by shock resulting .from a prolonged operation and anaesthesia.
