NAVAL SKIRMISH IN THE NORTH SEA
GERMAN DESTROYER CHASED GERMAN MINE-SWEEPERS DAMAGED (Eec. August 19, 5.5 p.m.) London, August 17. The Admiralty reports:—Our light naval forces, while scouting in the German Bight on Thursday, sighted one of the enemy's destroyers. We opened five, and ohnsed the enemy's ship, which was repeatedly hit, and set on fire. The enemy escaped through the mist over the German minefield. TBe enemy's mine-sweeper 3 were sighted shortly after. We oponed a heavy fire on them, and at least two Were severely damaged. We were unable to follow them, owing to the minefields. A submarine attacked our vessels during the engagement, and another attacked us after tho action, both without result. Our vessels were not damaged.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.-Reuter.
