THE WAR LOAN
So much has been said and written regarding the £24,000,000 War Loan that the public must be quite familiar with the terms as well as with tho reasons for its issue. The prospectus published in our columns by the Minister of Finance this morning sets out the details of the conditions under whicli the first portion of tho amount authorised is to be raised. It is proposed to issue £12,000,000 worth of stock and bonds to tho people of tho Dominion between the present date and September 3. Those who desiro to assist their country by subscribing to the loan can do so in three ways. They can lake up inscribed stock or bonds bearing interest at di per cent, free of income tax. This is a very profitable investment for persons with lar <r e incomes, to whom the exemption from the existing and prospective high rate of income tax will be a material consideration. Tho stock and bonds will have a currency of 21 years, tho loan being repayable bv the Treasury 'on November 15, 1938. Those with moderate incomes who do not pay income tax are offered an alternative method of participating in the loan. They may subscribe to it to the extent of £500 and receive 5 per cent, on their money, or they may take up War Loan Certificates. Thus big and small investors arts alike afforded the opportunity to make a profitable investment of their savings while at tho same time assisting their country in the prosecution of the war. Most people who are in a position to participate in the loan should ere this have considered how far it lies within their power to so assist.
