LEATHER SUPPLIES
ARRANGEMENTS FOR SADDLERY EQUIPMENT. Referring to tho recent conference which took place between the Saddlers' Association and the Minister in Chargo of tho Munitions and Supplies Department at Wellington, tlio Hon. Arthur Myers made the following statement: — "Ho had invited the members of the New Zealand Wholesale Saddlers' and Saddlers' Ironmongery Association to confer with his Department, with a view to minimising, as far as possible, the different varieties of saddlery materials which arc usually ordered from the Ilnited Kingdom by New Zealand impoi'teM." Tho eonfnrenco resulted iu theadoption of a policy of standardising equipment and other trade requisites. The items comprising tie standardised list are one hundred and live in number, full particulars of which din bo obtained by thofio interested from the secretary of the above-mentioned association. .., ... The conference was sensible of the wiehes of the Ministry of Munitions in tlio United Kingdom, from whom tlie Minister had learned (through the High Commissioner) that it was desirable to reduce the variety of equipment usually ordered. Tho association signified its refioivo to adopt the standardised list untT! the cessation of hostilities, hi this connection, however, it was pointed out that as time progresses, difficulties may increase in.regard to securing some of the lines which are on the now; approved Ijst, and, this being so, it might have to be further curtailed. This comment is specially applicable to all kinds of furnishings made from copper, brass, and st«el. Mr. Myers stated that 'he is of the opinion that tho result of the conference will be satisfactory to those in authority i\t Ihe Ministry of Munitions, London, who are dermis with New Zealand orders.
