FOR ME. WEBB'S WELCOME HOME. In the House lust' week, Mr. Vernon Reed put on the Order Paper the followin? question:— ' "Whether the Railway Department ran a special train to convey people to and from Grevmouth to take part in a welcome to Mr. Webb, M.P., on the occasion of his Teleaso from gaol after completing a sentence for sedition, and was this with the sanction of tho head office; and, if so; how does the head office justify its Tefnsal to run special trains to agricultural shows and race meetings or to take 6hop employees in cities borne from work on evenings when shops remain open late?" ■M'r." : Herries (Minister of Railways) replied;—"A special train was run from Dunbllie to Greymouth in respbnso to a Temiest made by the minei-s to tho local railway manager. ' The' train was' a guaranteed special, for which full tariff charges were collected. Through a misapprehension the matter was not referred to the head office, which had no knowledge of the proposal to run a, special train until after the event." /
