THE COMING CAMPAIGN.

TO AUGMENT WAB FUNDS,

There was a largo attendance of representatives of local patriotic societies at'the meeting of the War Fund Collection Committee, held in.the Mayors: room, at 5 o'clock last evening. The. Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) presided. , It was decided to discuss the silverbullet scheme (Mr. Lints's idea) prior to tho appointment of the chief executive, officers, and Mr. Lints was invited to explain his system, which, in brief, consists of dividing the city into different sections, each of which has its own army, which compete actively for subscriptions from the public, each member of which ■belongs to this or that army. So ther have a "Mobilisation Day"; the declaration of war; the battlej and the general wind-up (which includes the concluding: ceremonies). Mr. Lints said initially that the scheme was not generally understood, hut that was not a bad advertisement, for soon everyone became interested, and in Wanganui and Nelson the scheme had been a complete success. After Mr. Lints had concluded his remarks the Mayor asked him if the silver bullet" scheme was his own invention. Mr. Lints said that he had worked it out in conjunction with Mr. Ball, editor of the "Wanganui Chronicle, and that gentleman had got the kudos, and he got the money. He was not keen on the kudos-he was a silent worker. The chief organiser in Wanganui had been, Mr. Hope-Gibbons, with whom he consulted each morning at 9 o'clock on. the day's operations. Since the Wanganui campaign, ho had improved on the 'scheme at Nelson by 25 per cent., and he thought that the further improvements lie could effect m- Wellington would be worth an additional 30 or iO F Whilst'some of those present confessed that they were not too clear about th 9 details of the scheme, they were prepared to admit that there might be merit in it. Mr James M'lntosh said that the Patriotic ' Society had had the scheme before it for a year, and nothing better had been presented to it. Finally it was decided to postpone further consideration of the plan of campaign until next Monday fvenin;;, when another meeting will 1)6 held in the Mayor's room. , , , '
