Tho committee meeting of tho Mayoress' Countess of Liverpool Fund was held 111 the Town Hall yesterday morning., Mrs. Luke occupied tho chair, and thero were, present: Mesdames Massey, Murphy, Tripp,. Ashendcu, Fordham, Pnrdy, Tripe, Townseiul, Crump, Laing, Stott, W. Nathan, J. Findlay (lion, treasurer), and A. Crawford (lion, secretary). An apology was received from Mrs. Barltrop. A telegram from General Richardson was read by Mrs. Luke, and after discussion it 'was resolved that 2000 parcels, as planned, should bo packed this week by the Liverpool Fund workers, and woollen comforts should be enclosed in every parcel. A notice from the Red Cross Committee ro "Our Day" was read, -and it was decided that Mrs. Luke, Mrs. Tripp, and Mrs. Findlay should be tho delegates from tho committee at tho meeting called for tonight. A vote of thanks was'passed to the Spinsters' Club for the gift of .£93 to the Christmas Parcels Fund from their penny collection. Mrs. M. Myers wrote resigning with much regret tho joint secretaryship, owing to her being so much engaged with Red Cross and Soldiers' Comforts Guild work. After tho mooting of tho Hibernian Society at St. Patrick's Hall last evening, a social evening was held between tho members of tho society, and members of the Catholic Club. A. very pleasant timo was spent with music, song, and story, '.t'ho attendance was not. like that at similar gatherings held, and tho depletion of members of both bodies owing to tlio war was very noticeable, as the Holla of. Honour in tho club-room and lodge-room bear amplo testimony of tho fighting spirit of both bodies. Somo feeling inferences wero made by members, during which it was stated, that 500 Hibernians of New Zealand, arc at tho war, of which 50 belong to St.'Patrick's (Wellington) branches. Tho ■ remaining members of the society are paying the contributions of these monibers to keep them financial, approximating <CISOO per annum. This is a sacrifice drawn from a class of pcoplo by no means wealthy. School Bazaar. A sale of cakes and produce was held at Hataitai School on Saturday, in. aid of the fund for asphalting and improving the school playground. Dr. Newman, M.P., opened the fair, and spoko of matters "in connection with beautifying Wellington. Mr. Morrison; chairman of tho School Committee, Mr. Dirroch (headmaster), and others were in the official party. Stalls were arranged in tlio lialls and classrooms, and an ontortainmeiit was given during tho afternoon by the children, who gavo songs, recitations, and dances, all of which wero much appreciated. Tlio ladies in cliargo of the stalls were: Cako stall, the teaching staff under Miss Bird, who organised the sale with tho help of a ladies* committee; afternoon tea, Mesdames Tanner, Bait, Chamber, M'Donald, 'Brodie, Misses Brown and Carlylo; sweet still, Mesdames Sim, Jefferv. Bear, Fortune, and Arcns: produce, 'flowers, and needlework, Mesdames Bayfield, Mountier. Martin, and Itutledge; "Mother Hubbard's cupboard," Mrs. Bell; Bran tub and fish pond, Mesdames Ardell and Bennett., In tho evening a concert was', given in the school, arranged by Mrs. Mountain. Musical and elocutionary items were given, and there was a good attendance. Those tnking part were:' Miss Hazel Jeifevy, Miss Low, Miss Miller. Violet Day, Tho school children of Island Bay have promised twenty dozen eggs for the egg stall, which will bo ono of the attractions for Friday next, Violet Day. Tho children ot' Seatoun aro also making a don;itiott of egg*. This stall, which will be ill charge of Mrs. Phillips Turner, will be located in Boulcott Street, close to the Soldiers' Hostel. Tho indications point ,to Violet Day as being a most successful enterprise, and tho funds for the benefit of our sick and wounded soldiers in England and France, it is hoped, will benefit to a substantial degree. The only element of doubt exists in regard to the weather, and fervent hopes are being uttered for a lino day. Flowers aro expected to arrive from all parts of the country, andthostreets on Friday should bloom with violets and othor spring flowers. Mr. Barry laipino and the members of J. and N. Tait's Musical Comedy Company will be a special attraction in the efforts of the day. Mr. Lupino will conduct an auction sale of six trimmed hats, presented to the Red Cross by leading establishments in Wellington, and members of the Comedy Company intend to assist at the,concert party which is being organised by the Commercial Travellers' Association.
