MASTERTON NOTES
There are at "present seven privatelyconducted primary schools in the AVainirapa, including four at'Mnsterton. The Mastertou Oddfellows' Lodge has one member who cycles thirty miles to be present on each lodge night. The Wairarapa branch of the tamers Union has decided to invite the Rev. Mr. Simonds, of Auckland, to visit the district and address meetings on the subject of "Afforestation." The Wairarapa Hydro-Electrical Committee is awaiting a report from Mr. Cook on the Waiohine River scheme. A meeting of Hie Sheep-owners lederation is to be held in Wellington tins week-, wheu it is understood the Wairarapa representative will recommend that the pay for shearers in the coining season bo Xl'per hundred; with a war bonus of 7s. 6d. per hundred. The farmers of the Wairarapa. appreciate the offer of Mr. G. L. Marshall, of Marion, of a. challenge cup for the test plots of wheat. It is hoped that thirty entries will be received from the Wairarapa. ~ , The Mastertou branch of the Second Division League lias appointed a deputation to wait upon Mr. G. R.-Sykes, M.P., and ascertain if he is prepared to subscribe to'flio platform of the league, as outlined at tho recent conference. •V committee of ]?ernridge residents lifts been sot up to further the project lor establishing swimming baths at the local school;.
