On Monday th,o sale of these goods commences,' and as the , money that is received for eabh article goes to the soldier who mado it purchasers will fcol that it is money well spent, since it is giving an added interest to life to Teturnea soldiers as well as helping to make thorn financially independent.by their own efforts'.

More than once I have referred to the opening of public kitchens (states the London correspondent of the Melbonrne "Argus"). These places have mostly been the work of tho Salvation Army. "There are several in Manchester., In London and in Glasgow the kitchens are being run by local committeee. Edinburgh is ■now inaugurating a scheme of communal kitchens, under the direction of a municipal organiser of food distribution. In most instances the food is cooked in bulk, and tho purchaser takes it to his or her home to be consumed. Ono authority tells us that feeding in mass has been a chief canso of difficulty , in , carrying out the German publi'o kitchen scheme. The- eaving to tho people is mostly effected by the economy or preparing meals on a largo scale; and it is surprising how cheaply a palatable, nutritious menu oan bo produced.
