A WET MONTH
OVJ-11l SIX A3JD A HALF INCHES 01? iIAIN liN JULY. Up till last evening—and no rain foil from that time on till midnight—the rainfall for July was C.GC inches, which is pretty soaking weather even for July, usually t'lio wettest month of the year. As n. matter of fact rain fell on 25 out of the 31 days in ttio month, so that whilst there was only one really violently heavy down pour, the fall has been riretty consistently spread throughout tiie month, and no ono will be Borry to turn tbeir backs on July of 1917. The bipgeat fall* was (according to Mr. Pemborton, of the Meteorological Department) on Sun-day last, when, between 9 n.m. Un tiiat <iay nncl 9 a.m. on Monday 0.91 iiicli'fell, but of that 0.4G inch fell within u space of 22 minute on Sunday forenoon. The mean rainfall for July in Wellington is 5.81 inches, 60 that we have had more than our share from the beuvens. It is to be hoped that August will make proper compensation.
