WRECK IN THE PACIFIC
Sydney, July is. A cable was received yesterday from Fanning Island, tho Pacific Cable Company's ehition. reporting a mysterious wreck on Jarvis Island, lyinu eoufh of Fanning Island, in tho Polynesian Group. The report stated that tho wreck of a Failing vessel was observed on the eastern ehoro of tho island. It appears to lavs been a recent .wreck, parts of the vessel's gear being strewn alonj; tho beach. Jams Island, the scone of the wreck, is a smnll coral patch, triangular in shape, one and throe-quarter mile.? east and west and a mile north and couth, ten or twelve feet above live sen, without a tree or shrub, and very dangerous to navigation. The island is situated in lat. 0.22 eolith, long. 150.54 wost. It has been occupied by tihe. Phoenix Guano C 0... ■who placed men on it for tho purpose of working the guano beds.
