MILITARY SERVICE BOARD

YESTERDAY'S APPEALS The Third Military Service Board continued its sessions in Wellington yesterday. The board coDsists of Mr. H. .1. Beswick (chairman), Jlr. M. J. Mack, and Mr. A. O'L. C'onfiidine. Captain P. Baldwin is the military representative. The following seafaring men were exempted indefinitely, on the understanding that, they must remain ia their, present 1 occupation Jonathan Ladbnry, fireman: Vincent Barnes, fireman; Percy B. Jackson, able seaman; Alexander Marshall, able seaman; William Henry Harsent, fireman; William Morris able seaman; Charles M'l.aughlin, fireman; Murdo M'Phail, able seama.ti; Albert Panther, able seaman; George Jarvis, I fireman; John Walker Hudso'ii;- Donald Lamont, bo'snn; Henry Dohtirty. able seaiuon; Frederick Green, fireman. An appeal by Frederick Julius Jones, bootmaker, Island Bay, was ryifide on the ground of undue hardship, jl.eave till October 17 was granted. Horace Henry, Baumber. gnocer, of Lower Hull,, asked for exemption till October 20 to enablo him to ileitis his business affairs. Leave till September 19 was granted. Undue hardship was alleged in the case of Harry Inkersell, registered plumber, of Coombe Street. It was contended that his family responsibilities ware such that he was virtually in the position of a. Second Division man. This board granted leave till August 22, Thomas Holmes Hill withdrew 'his appeal, and the board ordered hitn to go into camp on September 1!). The appeal of Thomas Brand's O'Donoghue, warehouseman, of .lessie Street, was adjourned till the end of the First Division is reached. Peter Hunter Anderson, warehouseman, of ISO Tasman Street., was gTa.nl ed leave till August 22. Sergeant James Hope-Tide, 2-ttti Mounted "Rifles. Featherston (a voluntary recruit) asked foT temporary exemption. The board made an adjournment to the first sitting in September. The appeal of Thomas Prehensen, slaughterman, Mulgrave Street, was adjourned sine die. The board dismissed the appeal of William Krnest Davidson, agricultural worker, "Details," Trentluiin Calmp. An appeal made, by the General Manager of the Wellington Tramways on behalf of Daniol Alfred Tucker, 'Tramway 'IVaffio Inspector, was adjourned, till the end of the Fir.-t Division is reached. The board had no recommendation to make in the case, of George JTenty Neale, a voluntary recruit, who asked for temporary exemption. The board dismissed the appeal of William Dickson, clerk, of Wellington Terrace, and recommended that he be drafted to the Medical Corps. Ralph. Stanley Wheeler, r;xlio-lcle-grapliist. of Johnsonville, was granted leave till September ID. The ease of Carl Walter carpenter. was adjourned to the first silting after October !7. Edward ,T. Xi. O'Donnell, endorsement clerk in the State Fire Insurance Office, satisfied the board that he was not a reservist. His appeal was allowed. William Alexander Esson, a voluntary vecruit, was granted leave, till September 111. In a number of cases appellants failed to apnear, and their appeals were dismissed.
