Violet Day Meeting. A mooting of the Violet Day General Committee was held in the gymnasium of tho Soldiers' Club in Sydney Street yesterday afternoon,-. Mrs. A. Pearce presiding. Mrs. Firth (honorary secretary) outlined the work that had been accomplished in tho meantime, and which completed the various details mentioned at tho last meeting. Thcro were to bo fourteen stalls, and these were to be decorated by those in charge. The commercial travellers had informed her that they would do all that they could to assist, and would give a street entertainment headed by a band. They would also hold an auction sale of gifts and it was announced that ono contributor was sending in as many as ono thousand bunches of violets for sale. Tho Maori entertainment which Mrs. Elder was organising promised to bo most interesting, and tho Women's National Jteservo had promised to be in charge of and to stock tho Wellington Red Cross Shop on Violet Pay. The Guernsey egg stall, which would be stationed in BcYulcott Street, promised to be a great success. Mrs. A. Pearce outlined the arrangements that had been made in connection with tho handcarts which would have to be taken to their separate stands by half-past seven on Friday morning. She advised that seven of the .'tallholdcrs should decorate their carts in the morning, and as some of the carts could not bo obtained until live in the afternoon the remaining seven would have to be decorated in tlio evening. The carts would have, to be returned lo the depot on the Friday by six o'clock civ thereabouts, <%- they would be wanted by (heir owners. Each stall holder would provide lier own baskets and for each basket she would provide a little Red Cross (lug if tho Stall holders would let her know how many were wanted.

Tt was decided at the. meeting that exemption badges would bo sold at hnlf-a-crown, asxl at Mrs. Stewart's request Mrs. Pearce was appointed assistant, organiser nt tho depot (Messrs. J. I!. Harcourt and Co.'s Buildings). A. further motion carried was that the sum of money resulting from Violot Day should bo cabled to the executive in England for 'I he relief of the New Zealand soldiers in England and France. Some very dainty novelties and satin flowers which have already been made were handed round for inspection and were much admired.

Another of tho monthly reunions of mothers of soldiers and sailors institute)] by the Honorary Branch of the Women's National Reserve was held in tho Town Hall yesterday afternoon, and was ns usual largely attended. Mrs. W. G. Russell (president) received the guests, ami Iter Excellency the Countess of Liverpool during tho course of the afternoon, presented quito a number of badges to mothers of soldiers who either aro or havo been oh active service. Naturally every caro is taken to see that only bona fide mothers obtain these badges. They are copyrighted and the numbers aro "tested at tho Base Records Office, so that in every way the badge is protected and cannot be obtained under falso pretences. It may not be understood by all mothers that tho moment their sons learo New Zealand on active service they aro at liberty to apply to the Jwilicoul Reserve Office for this 'token of their sacrifice, which is undoubtedly sought after, contrary to tho assertions of somo members of Parliament. A musical programme arranged by Miss Russell was much appreciated. Contributing to it were Mrs. Le Mnrohand, Miss Teresa MTlnroe, Dr. ITay (who chose a dissertation from the . inimitable , Artemus Ward), Mrs. Henderson, and two small pupils of Miss Beere's, who contributed a couple of pretty dances. Tho arrangements for afternoon tea were carried out by the Berhamporo branch of thoAV.N.R., groups of young girls tinder the supervision of Mesdames Bethune and Teats waiting upon the guests of the occasion. Among those who were present at the gathering were Mrs. W. F. Masscy. Lady Stout, Mrs. Poma.ro, Mrs. Porter, organising secretary, and several visiting members in the shape of the wives of members of Parliament. Sailors' Friend Society, A concert was given by Miss Kutner at the Sailors' I'riend Society on Tuesday evening. Songs were contributed by the Misses Atnclf, Zara, Kutner, and Messrs. Keaiioy and AValfcer, and recitations by tho Misses Thiell and Fanny Kutner and Mr. Keaney, and instrumental items by Mrs. Cording, who also presided at tho piano. Mr. J. Moore, missioner, mnde a plea for denial in drinking customs, and iivo men signed tho society's pledge. Captain and Mrs. Chaytor, who have been: staying at. Tanpo for somo time, havo returned to Blenheim. Captain Chaytor, who has been on active service for some timo, is visiting New Zealand for tho benefit of his health. Tho secretary of tho Jervois Quay Dopot, at which sewing is dono for tho dependants of sailors, has recently received a consignment of children's garments made and sent by children attending some of the Poverty Bay schools. The little garments, which wero the handiwork of girls all under fourteen years of age, were all very well made indeed, and besides being of good material, looked warm and comfortable, and should bo very useful to the recipients on t'ho other side of tho world. Further contributions of garments have been received as follow:—Tho Mayoress (lire. Luke), parcel; Shannon Women's Sewing GiiiGl, two boxes; Mrs. J. Ormond, one parcel; Mrs. Thompson, ono case; Napier Women's Christian Temperance Union, one case; Miss Bright and Mrs. Preston, ono parcel each of clothing. The Mayoress's Countess of Liverpool Fund hopes to send every man who is away on active 6ervico a specially gcod Christmas parcel. Already the Christinas puddings aro very nearly ready for packing, and it remains for Wellington citizens to subsoribo liberally to this fund to enable the scheme to be carried out worthily. To further this cause, the Spinsters' Club iire making a penny collection in tho streets on Friday evening, and also on Saturday morning and evening, and it is hoped that they will meet with a good response from the public. ■ SPECTAL TREATMENT AT MRS.
